An AI assistant is planned. Until it is genuinely useful we would rather point you at the page that actually answers your question.
Dashboards and alerting that answer specific operational questions, across metrics, logs and business data.
Start Your ProjectGrafana is an open-source visualisation and alerting tool. It does not store data itself; it connects to data sources such as Prometheus, Loki, Elasticsearch, PostgreSQL and cloud monitoring services, and lets you query and chart them together.
The value is in the dashboards being useful. A good one answers a question, such as whether the service is healthy, where latency is coming from or whether a deploy changed behaviour. A bad one is a wall of charts nobody can interpret under pressure.
It is part of the stack we use ourselves for monitoring, alongside the other tools we reach for, and we apply the same design discipline to client dashboards.
Suitability
And when it is not. Choosing the wrong tool costs more than any implementation detail.
In practice
A small set of signals, such as request rate, errors and latency, laid out so a problem is visible within seconds.
Alert rules that link to the relevant dashboard and carry enough information to start diagnosing from the notification.
Dashboards and data sources provisioned from version control, so they are reviewed, reproducible and not lost with one instance.
Considerations
Practical notes from running this in production.
Dashboards drift into clutter. Give each one an owner and a purpose, and delete the ones nobody opens.
Query cost is real. A dashboard that refreshes frequently across wide time ranges can load your data source heavily.
Access control needs thought. Data sources can expose sensitive tables, so permissions per team and per source matter.
Editing dashboards in the UI on a live instance makes them irreproducible. Provisioning from files avoids that.
