An AI assistant is planned. Until it is genuinely useful we would rather point you at the page that actually answers your question.
Financial software is judged on correctness in a way most software is not. A rounding error in a reporting tool is an annoyance; the same error in a ledger is a reconciliation failure that compounds daily and eventually becomes a regulatory matter.
The technical consequence is that money is never represented as a floating-point number, every balance-affecting operation is idempotent, and the system records what happened rather than only the current state. An append-only ledger with derived balances is harder to build than a mutable balance column, and it is the only approach that survives audit.
Integration reality also differs. Payment providers, banking APIs and card networks each have their own settlement timing, failure modes and retry semantics. Building as though these are ordinary HTTP calls produces duplicate charges and orphaned transactions.
Constraints
These are the factors that change architecture rather than decorate it.
Handling card data directly pulls a large compliance scope onto you. Tokenising through a provider so raw card numbers never reach your systems avoids most of it, and is almost always the right call.
Identity verification, sanctions screening and transaction monitoring, with records retained and reproducible on request.
Financial records frequently must remain in a specific jurisdiction, which constrains hosting and backup topology.
Immutable history of who did what, when and on whose authority — reconstructed logs are not sufficient.
Applications
Collection, settlement and reconciliation with idempotency throughout and clear handling of partial failure.
Application, decisioning, servicing and collections, with decision reasons recorded for regulatory review.
Reporting where figures must agree across views and reconcile against the underlying ledger.
Monitoring, alerting and case management for teams handling suspicious activity reviews.
Integrations
Common integration points in this sector. Others are handled case by case.
