An AI assistant is planned. Until it is genuinely useful we would rather point you at the page that actually answers your question.
Data-heavy Python web applications where the built-in ORM, authentication and admin remove weeks of plumbing.
Start Your ProjectDjango is a full-stack Python web framework that ships with an ORM, migrations, authentication, form handling, an automatically generated admin interface and a security-conscious set of defaults. You assemble far less than you would with a minimal framework.
Its opinions are strong and it rewards working the Django way. That is a benefit for data-centred applications with clear models and permissions, and a friction point for projects whose shape does not match its conventions.
Suitability
And when it is not. Choosing the wrong tool costs more than any implementation detail.
In practice
Multi-role platforms with a well-modelled relational schema, permissions per role and an admin that operations staff can actually use.
Django admin extended with custom actions and filtering, so a business tool exists in days rather than a quarter.
Serialisation, permissions and versioned endpoints for a mobile or single-page frontend, on top of the same models.
Considerations
Practical notes from running this in production.
The ORM hides queries, and that hides N+1 problems. A page that loads related rows in a loop can issue hundreds of queries, so we review query counts rather than trusting that it works.
The admin is a trap if it becomes the customer-facing product. It is excellent for staff and poorly suited to anything polished a customer would use.
Long-running work does not belong in the request cycle. Email, report generation and imports go to a task queue such as Celery with retries, or they will time out in production.
Migrations on large tables can lock them. Schema changes to a busy database need to be planned in steps, not run casually on deploy.
