How to Choose a Software Development Company in India
The lowest quote is rarely the lowest project cost. Use this framework to compare engineering teams, proposals, communication and ownership before signing.By MI Technologies Engineering2 min read
Choosing a software development company is a business decision, not just a technical one. The team you select will influence the product's scope, operating cost, security and ability to change after launch.
Start with the problem, not the technology
Before comparing agencies, write down the business outcome, the users who need it, the workflow that is failing today and the evidence that would show the project worked. A clear problem statement makes proposals comparable. It also exposes vendors that lead with a preferred framework instead of asking about the domain.
What to evaluate
Relevant delivery experience
Look for work that resembles your risk, not merely a list of familiar logos. Ask what the team personally delivered, which decisions were difficult, and what changed after launch. A genuine case study explains the constraint, the solution and the trade-off.
The proposal
A useful proposal names assumptions, exclusions, milestones, dependencies and the process for changing scope. It should explain what will be usable at each stage rather than promising a single impressive launch date.
Engineering quality
Ask how the company handles testing, access control, monitoring, backups, deployments and documentation. These are not extras. They determine whether your team can operate the product when the original developers are unavailable.
Communication and ownership
Confirm who makes day-to-day decisions, how often you see working software, where the source code and infrastructure live, and what happens at handover. The contract should make ownership explicit.
Questions to ask before signing
- What assumptions would make this estimate wrong?
- Which risks will we test in the first two weeks?
- Who will be on the project and how much of their time is committed?
- How are defects, security issues and change requests handled?
- What documentation and deployment access do we receive?
Price matters, but it should be compared after scope and delivery risk are visible. A team that explains uncertainty clearly is usually safer than one that promises certainty without evidence. If you are assessing a project, talk to MI Technologies for a written scope and the assumptions behind it.
